This is so cool! I just ate a TON of gelato in Italy ... makes my mouth water thinking about it.

Thank you! Lucky you – I haven't been to Italy yet this summer but now I'm dreaming of gelato, too!

Thank you for sharing this, Anna! We are passing through Modena on our way back from campo estivo and this looks like the perfect stop! 💕 🍧

Yes, definitely pass by if you can! If you have time, it's near a lot of balsamic vinegar producers which is interesting to see. Acetaia del Cristo is the largest one and worth a visit

Anna, thank you so much for the tip!! Love being able to turn the camp commute into a foodie boondoggle for this mamma! :-)

I could see a really excellent listicle of Where Italians Get Their Gelato as a follow-up to this article! Enquiring minds would love to know!

That's a great idea, although it would definitely take some research to get it right!

After sampling so much gelato in Sicily, this was a very welcome post explaining the history and making of gelato and differentiating it from ice cream. I hope I can one day sample the strawberry gelato you describe from Modena. An excellent post!
